The monthly collection of donations for St. Vincent de Paul will be after all Masses September 28-29. Our special need at this time of the year is blankets, quilts and bedspreads. Other household items such as dishes, towels and glasses are always appreciated. Thank you for your help!
This month’s Love Story:
'200 stackable, rose-colored chairs from St. Rita - sturdy, but many needing new upholstery', Could the Saint Vincent de Paul Ministry use them? That was the question three years ago. We said, 'yes', and then realized how many chairs we had agreed to take! When I saw the 30 rows of chairs stacked 6 high in our storeroom, I doubted that we would ever donate all of them. It was a lot of chairs!
Yesterday Randy and I loaded six chairs into our car for our client Rosie. Rosie has five children. She had a nice table in her kitchen, but no chairs. Only three chairs were left in the space where 200 had been stored. Today when Randy dropped off a box of household goods at Rosie's apartment, there were Rosie's five children sitting around the table on their new rose-colored chairs enjoying a lunch of hot dogs and bread.
It makes me wonder where the other 191 chairs found a home; how many other families surround their tables for food and conversation while sitting on used chairs from St. Rita's Church. What a happy ending for those old rose-colored chairs!
