Join us for OremusMKE this Friday, July 12, from 7:00pm-10:00pm as we invite our neighbors in to see the beautiful Cathedral (812 N Jackson St) and to light a candle for peace. All are welcome to come and pray in the church. We are also looking for volunteers who can help us to welcome and pray with the hundreds of guests we will have. “A Church which ‘goes forth’ is a Church whose doors are open…Often it is better simply to slow down, to put aside our eagerness in order to see and listen to others, to stop rushing from one thing to another and to remain with someone who has faltered along the way.” Pope Francis in Evangelii Gaudium ... The monthly collection of donations for St. Vincent de Paul will be June 29th and 30th after all masses. We are in special need of new or gently used blankets, wash cloths and dish towels. Other household items such as sheets, bath towels, dishes and glasses are always appreciated. Please call Randy Bedore at 262-617-0910 for pick-up of large donations. Thank you for your help!
This month’s Love Story:
Being a St. Vincent de Paul volunteer is a humbling experience. The clients I have met, almost without exception, face struggles for their most basic needs - food and adequate shelter - and yet remain surprisingly positive.
My SVdP partner and I recently visited Amanda, a young mother of two boys, ages seven and one. Amanda and her family live in a small upper flat that consists of one bedroom where the boys sleep, a room meant to be the living room that Amanda uses as a bedroom and a small kitchen. The only furniture in the house was a single bed, a porta-crib for the baby, a mattress on the floor for Amanda, one tall counter-type stool and a television set. When we arrived, the two boys were in the bedroom playing so quietly that we did not know they were there.
Amanda had contacted St. Vincent de Paul looking for help with a bed and other furniture. We were able to write a voucher to the St. Vincent de Paul store for the bed and a small dining table and chairs. My partner and I then went to our conference storeroom and found an easy chair, a rocking chair, a high chair, a small dresser and a nightstand. Thanks to the generosity of those in our parishes who donate their gently used furniture, Amanda now can provide her children and herself a more comfortable home.
