Join us for OremusMKE this Friday, July 13, from 6:00pm-9:00pm as we invite our neighbors in to see the beautiful Cathedral (812 N Jackson St) and to light a candle for peace. We are looking for volunteers who can help us to welcome and pray with the hundreds of guests we will have. The monthly collection of household goods for St. Vincent de Paul will be this weekend, June 30th and July 1st. Thank you for your donations!

This month’s Love Story:
My partner this time for our visit was from the St. Vincent DePaul office. The client we were visiting had called the office numerous times and had difficulty understanding why we had not come to his home already. Upon calling him we could understand he was cognitively disabled. He greeted us at the front door to his building and was quite excited we were there. He began by telling us his story of being homeless for a year until his brother from Texas came up to help him complete papers to enter a subsidized housing unit. He was sleeping on the floor with just a blanket. There were no other items in his apartment. We were able to take him kitchen and household items from our storage at St. Hedwig’s such as dishes, glasses, silverware, towels, sheets and pillows. We ordered him a bed and sofa from the St. Vincent Thrift store. He was quite concerned how he should clean his apartment, telling us that the management will periodically check his apartment. We came back from St. Hedwig’s with a donation of cleaning supplies, a broom and a mop and explained to him which supplies to use where. He has followed up with calls to Melanie at the office and myself telling us how thankful he is for what we have given him. We were also able to connect him to other resources such as the food pantry, St. Vincent’s meal program and SET Ministry workers in his building.

Welcome to our New Youth Minister - Nino Rebholz!

We are excited to announce that we have a new part-time Youth Minister dedicated to serving the middle school and high school youth of our four parish family. Nino Rebholz began his position on June 6 and jumped right in with coordinating the 45 youth volunteers who help with our Good News Adventure summer camp. This summer, Nino will be getting to know our parishes and planning for a great year of ministry that will launch in September. Stay tuned for exciting developments ahead!
