All Saints Catholic Church (4051 N 25th St) offers free hot meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 - 6:00 pm in the church's basement hall. Volunteers from the Family of Four Parishes help serve meals on the 2nd Thursday of every month. This team is looking for more volunteers, especially for the summer months when our usual Marquette University student volunteers are not available (July 14, August 11). Carlos Londoño, the new associate pastor at the Family of Four Parishes.I am originally from Colombia and moved to Wisconsin in August of 2014 to begin my seminary formation at Saint Francis de Sales Seminary. I was ordained a priest on May 16, 2020 at Saint John’s Cathedral.Wednesday, June 22 I began my time of service at the Family of Four Parishes and I love it! I have felt so welcomed by our pastor Fr. Love Thy Neighbor, sponsored by the Racial Justice & Healing Committee:The Fourth of July commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, which announced to the world that the newly named “United States of America” had declared its independence from Great Britain. This weekend (July 2nd) also marks the anniversary of another major step towards freedom and equality for all US citizens -- the Civil Rights Act of 1964. That law prohibited segregation in public places and banned employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Archbishop Kurtz, the president of the USCCB at the time of the 50th Anniversary of the law passing, noted “The Civil Rights Act was a monumental step forward and since then, we have made even more progress in this vital work of transforming hearts and minds, but there is still much work to do.… We must therefore continue to work against the destructive influence of racism.…” As people of goodwill have done throughout our country’s history, may we continue to strive for more perfect “liberty and justice for all”.
