Community Ministry Connection: Franciscan Peacemakers

Each month the Human Concerns Committee will highlight the work of a community organization doing outstanding ministry in the city of Milwaukee. Our first Community Ministry Connection for the month of February 2021 is Franciscan Peacemakers.

Mission

Franciscan Peacemakers connects women survivors of sexual exploitation to safe housing, meaningful work and a healing network of support. We work for an end to human sex trafficking through service and advocacy because we believe that everyone is created to enjoy peace and all good.

About

Franciscan Peacemakers is a multifaceted ministry supporting the needs of women survivors of sexual exploitation. They engage in outreach on the street, provide a safe space for women in need of hospitality, access to resident-based trauma care at the Clare Community, and the opportunity for work while learning skills in manufacturing, packaging, marketing, sales and administration.

Bath and Home Products

Franciscan Peacemakers products include soaps, lotions, candles and bath bombs – beautifully handmade with all-natural ingredients by women working together toward individual and collective healing. This month, in addition to being able to purchase products for your own use, you can also purchase products that will be shared with our friends at the Riverwest Food Pantry, through the Franciscan Peacemakers’ Community Care program! Free shipping is always available for orders over $65, or use the code FAMILYOF4 to receive free shipping if you also choose to donate soap to RWFP but are not spending $65.

Education and Involvement

There are many ways to learn more about Franciscan Peacemakers and to stay connected to their good work! You can subscribe to Franciscan Peacemakers Blog posts and Podcast episodes on their website: https://franciscanpeacemakers.org. Additionally, Franciscan Peacemakers has an active presence on both Facebook and Instagram social media platforms. Lastly, the Family of Four parishes welcomed our friend, Deacon Steve Przedpelski, to an online Zoom presentation to learn more about his work as the Executive Director of Franciscan Peacemakers on Tuesday, February 16. We were also joined by Retired MPD Lt. Dawn Jones and Franciscan Peacemakers board member Wendy Smith.
