Dear Friends,
The formation of the church in the Acts of the Apostles always amazes me. From a small group of frightened followers, a worldwide movement that would change the course of human history came into being.
We sometimes get lost in the problems we face in this troubled world. Then we fret; we study; we form opinions; we discuss. We plan and try to solve. We organize. We become frustrated. We fear things can never get better. We despair. Probably saddest of all, we lose our ability to dream and hope.
Maybe those early followers of Jesus had it right. Perhaps we just need to start by changing ourselves, by conforming our hearts to the heart of Jesus and trust that he will help us figure things out. Perhaps we are starting in the wrong place – looking for solutions instead of looking for Jesus.
Maybe once we find him, we will be so peacefully emboldened that God’s creativity will take root through us. We won’t find the solutions; they will find us, in the midst of hearts that are peaceful and trusting, in the midst of hearts that once more can share the dream and hope that tomorrow can be better for us, and for our children!
