Please join the Family of Four Parishes and our Racial Justice and Healing Committee as we dive into Dr. Conor Kelly’s book “Racism and Structural Sin: Confronting Injustice with the Eyes of Faith.” It is a wonderful resource for Catholics, in which he explains why, if we are truly Catholics believing that we are all created in God’s image, we need to be committed to racial justice. Dear Friends,On May 20 at the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist, five new priests were ordained at the service of the people of God in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. One of them, Fr. Joseph Heit, will be joining Fr. Tim and me to serve the people of God in the East Side, Downtown and Riverwest neighborhoods. Tuesday, June 20 will be Fr. Joseph’s first day at our parishes!We welcome the gift of Fr. Joseph with joy-filled hearts as we also welcome the work of the Holy Spirit at our local seminary, Saint Francis de Sales, with gratitude.Currently, there are 45 men in formation at the seminary to become priests, God willing, in our Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Most of these men are from our neighborhoods and cities, from Sheboygan to Kenosha, all the way to Lake Geneva and Shorewood. We thank God for the gift of these vocations to the priesthood and continue encouraging young men to consider the priesthood as a path to live out God’s will in their lives.I am certainly loving my priesthood here at the Family of Four. Even though I have been a priest for three years, next week (June 11) I will be leading my first Corpus Christi procession after the 11:30 am Mass at Old Saint Mary. Love Thy NeighborToday is the feast of St. Charles Lwanga and the Ugandan Martyrs. Do you know their inspirational story? King Mwanga of Uganda was open to missionaries of both Christian and non-Christian religions, because it helped him play foreign powers against one another. St. Joseph Mukasa Balikuddembe was a Christian in charge of the court pages and did what he could to protect the teen boys from the abuses of the king. Mukasa was executed for his perceived disloyalty, and Charles, inspired by Mukasa’s example, was baptized on the night of Mukasa's martyrdom, soon took over as head of pages and continued his work of catechizing and protecting the youth. This quickly led to Charles and his charges being imprisoned for their resistance, and later endured a death march of nearly 30 miles, leaving a martyr’s body at every major crossroads - 22 Catholics and 23 Anglicans. Spiritual Adoption Month 2: "I'm dancing!" The baby is making rapid progress developing all her external and internal organs. During the second month baby teeth form and her fingers and toes are developing. Ears, nose, lips and tongue can now be clearly seen. Even her brain waves can now be recorded. The skeleton changes from cartilage to bone. The central nervous system is now functioning and so forty muscle sets begin their first exercises. By eight weeks all body systems are present and the baby is called a "fetus," a Latin word meaning "little one" or "young one." Our neighbors in need send their deepest gratitude …Let us tell you about our recent visit. Betty is 54 years of age and widowed. She recently moved into a high-rise low income building on the East side of Milwaukee. She is grateful to be out of her 2nd floor flat because she needed an elevator. Betty uses a walker. When we called Betty, she was teary and frightened. She told us that there were bed bugs in the building and in her apartment. She had to get rid of her bed. Because of the generous support from our parish, we were able to provide Betty with a new mattress set that is protected in plastic from bed bug infestation. She also received new bed pillows, linens, blankets and towels. Betty was so grateful for the quick response. She was especially looking forward to a comfortable and warm night’s sleep in her new bed. She sends her blessings to our parishes. Please keep our neighbors in need in your prayers.
